Rain didn’t dampen the spirits of those attending the 16th annual Monongahela Valley Hospital/Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk Saturday in Charleroi.
Despite dreary weather conditions, residents from across the region brightened the day by sporting various shades of pink and fun accessories.
The event, one of the largest annual fundraising walks in the Mon Valley, attracted hundreds of walkers and runners.
The 1- or 2-mile fun walk supports the prevention, early detection and treatment of breast cancer in the community at Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Township.
Melissa Marion, director of the Monongahela Valley Hospital Foundation, said while the event is always fun, it important to remember the bigger cause.
“If you have walked with us before, you know we like to have a lot of fun, dress up as superheroes, get creative and have a great time,” she said. “But when we remove the pink, there is one thing that matters and that is the reason why we are all here — to honor and raise awareness for those who have faced, are currently facing or who may face breast cancer in the future and all of those who support them.”
