When Norma Werner set out to trace her family tree, she did not expect to write a book of more than 500 pages, nor did she expect to discover historic connections of national importance.
But she did both.
Werner, 90, is a charter member of the Elizabeth Township Historical Society and is descended from several of the township’s earliest families. It is those families, the Douglass, Howell and Pierce families, that Werner documented with the help of her niece, Janice Batey, and compiled into the book now sold by the historical society.
“When we started this historical society nobody knew nobody. We didn’t know the connections between all the families,” Werner said. “After writing this book, I can’t say anything about anybody in Elizabeth Township because I’m probably related to them.”
