Cedar Creek Park is flush with upgrades

Westmoreland County has begun deodorizing picturesque Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver.
That is, three comfort stations with “pit toilets” — reminiscent of early-day outhouses — are being replaced with water-flushed toilets.
Eventually, all 10 comfort stations scattered about the 489 acres will be upgraded, making Cedar Creek the first park operated by the Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation Department to provide such an amenity.
The work is part of a current $1.6 million phase of upgrades that include:
• A new winter sports area for sledding and tubing.
• A hilltop “destination playground” offering children (including those with special needs) unique facilities beyond typical swings and see-saws.
• Restroom, shelter and walkway renovations.
• A new 200-seat “River ’n Trail” pavilion under construction along the Youghiogheny River.
