Charleroi had no answer on the ground for the Whipkey brothers in a 28-14 loss at McGuffey Friday night in Interstate Conference action.

The win gives the Highlanders (8-0, 6-0) the inside track for the conference title and a home playoff game. McGuffey plays Washington in two weeks to end the regular season.

Despite the setback, the Cougars (5-2, 4-2) clinched a playoff berth with a Brownsville loss to Frazier. Charleroi will host Brownsville on Friday to end its conference slate.

“We really made no major adjustments in the second half,” Charleroi coach Lance Getsy said. “I think our guys just settled down and we did our assignments. We are a young team, and we just made too many mental mistakes in the first half. You can’t do that against a good team on the road.”
