Elizabeth-area veterans were honored Friday at a lunch sponsored by state Rep. Mike Puskaric, R-Elizabeth Township.
Certificates of appreciation were given to 110 veterans from all branches of the military and from all conflicts from World War II through the current war on terrorism at the event, which was held at the Elizabeth Borough Volunteer Fire Department.
“It’s important that we as a community remember the sacrifice that has been made,” Puskaric said.
Army National Guard Capt. Carolyn Prah of Rostraver Township spoke to the veterans, noting that each generation has succeeded because of the veterans who served before them.
“It is hard for me to do this type of speech because there is so much sacrifice in front of me,” Prah told the veterans. “I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I know there are many obstacles that you faced and we wouldn’t be where we are today without you.”
