“Who goes to a Blue Ribbon School?” “We do!”
That question and answer rang through the Elizabeth Forward Middle School Auditorium several times Wednesday afternoon as the Central Elementary School students and staff were recognized for their achievement as a national Blue Ribbon school.
“There are only 10 Blue Ribbon elementary schools in Pennsylvania and Central is the only one in Allegheny County,” said Thomas Sharkey, the EF school board president. “Henry Ford said nothing is difficult if you divide it into small jobs. Elizabeth Forward is leading the country in personalization, the maker movement and computerized classrooms for all students.”
Central Elementary School received the national recognition earlier this school year, receiving a plaque and a flag in recognition of academic excellence and its ability to bridge the achievement gap for students.
“Over the past 10 years we’ve experienced tremendous growth at Central Elementary,” said Dr. Todd Keruskin, the district superintendent.
Keruskin praised the Central Elementary staff for embracing change, including the introduction of iPads at the school eight years ago.
“There are no other schools in the country doing what our teachers and staff are doing on a daily basis,” Keruskin said.
