A Monessen senior citizen issued a warning for other elderly residents to check their water meters every month.
When Hilda Lewis went to her Marion Avenue home on Oct. 2, she found a notice on her door handle stating that she had used 147,000 gallons of water.
Lewis said she almost fainted when she read the number from the water company.
“It’s almost unbelievable,” she said at Monday’s council meeting. “That’s why I came tonight … to tell all senior citizens to read their meter.”
