The Elizabeth Forward School District has received approval from the state Department of Education to offer flexible instructional days in place of some snow days this year.
In the event of inclement weather or other issues, the district will have the option of calling a two-hour delay, a flexible instructional day or closing for the day. The district has used flexible instructional days in the past as part of a pilot program.
“We use it typically on those days when it’s extremely cold weather we knew was coming and could prepare in advance,” said Keith Konyk, assistant superintendent. “We knew the teachers would be able to get in here and be accessible by phone for the kids.”
Konyk said because extreme cold is easy to predict, teachers are able to send work home with students or otherwise prepare them for remote learning options using their iPads.
