Jefferson Hills area community center plans stalled

Residents in Jefferson Hills, Pleasant Hills and West Elizabeth hoping to soon have access to a community recreation center at the former site of the Thomas Jefferson High School may have to wait a bit longer.
Due to stalled talks between the Jefferson Hills Recreation Board and the West Jefferson Hills School District, and the delayed release of a recreation board survey sent out to Jefferson Hills residents asking what they would like to see in a community center, there is no timetable as to when — or where — a community center will be built.
The school district gave the recreation board a Dec. 31 deadline to provide information about a new community center, but the district is moving forward with plans to demolish the high school and turn it into a parking lot, according to recreation board member Melissa Girman- Steffey.
Steffey said their efforts to delay the demolition bidding process has taken a turn for the worse.
