A proposed 2020 budget is still in the works in Charleroi.
Council members discussed the proposed spending plan during an agenda meeting Wednesday.
As is, the $2.6 million budget will require a slight tax increase, but because adjustments still need to be made, it is unclear what the new millage rate could be.
Councilman Mark Alterici questioned several line items in the budget, including solicitor fees, which were budgeted for $16,500 this year. Those fees came under budget at $11,680.
For 2020, $16,500 was again budgeted for solicitor fees, but council agreed it could be dropped to $12,000.
Building repairs and maintenance also saw a projected increase from roughly $8,000 this year to $20,000. Alterici questioned such a large spike.
Council Vice President and finance Chairwoman Jeannine Motycki said she raised the number because of previous discussions about moving entrance doors to the police department to make the area more secure.
“I think we need to make it safer for the officers,” she said. “It’s important to do, because it really is not safe right now.”
