A local lawmaker has a front row seat in the impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump as a member of the House Judiciary Committee.
U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, R-Peters Township, is in his first term as a congressman and drew an assignment on the committee responsible for compiling articles of impeachment.
After the first day of testimony Wednesday involving four Constitutional law professors, Reschenthaler called the proceedings a “sham” and accused Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York and other Democrats of manipulating the proceedings and wasting the time Congress should be spending on other matters, such as the U.S., Mexico and Canada trade agreement.
“Chairman Nadler brought in law professors in an attempt to legitimize this political theater and put a veneer over their partisan impeachment process,” said Reschenthaler, a former Naval JAG prosecutor, “but the American people weren’t fooled. Instead of passing USMCA, lowering prescription drug prices and investing in our nation’s infrastructure, we are wasting time and taxpayer dollars on this circus. The American people deserve better.”
