Early struggles hinder Tigers in loss to Panthers

McKeesport looked to make an early season statement in the opening game of the Hempfield Spartan Tip-Off against Franklin Regional.
But it was hard for the Tigers to make their statement with their star player sitting three rows up in the bleachers behind the bench.
Playing without senior forward Deamontae Diggs, the Tigers were fundamentally dismantled by the Panthers, 82-62, to open the season.
“That first half was the worst half of McKeesport basketball I’ve ever seen in my life,” McKeesport coach Kevin Kovach said. “We got outplayed, I got outcoached. He had better shoes than I did and their managers were better than ours. It was from top to bottom.”
