The Thomas Jefferson girls basketball team started the 2019-20 campaign with a bit of unfinished business on its mind, while hoping to follow in the footsteps of the Jaguars football team, with a goal of winning a PIAA championship.
It didn’t take long to see the Jaguars were back in full force, winning their first game of the season, 68-24, over Elizabeth Forward at the Baldwin Tournament Friday.
Sharpshooting Alyssa DeAngelo led the Jaguars with 30 points, making it tough to believe she missed her first few looks at the basket. DeAngelo and the rest of the squad started a little slow offensively before rocketing ahead of the Warriors 13-0 thanks to three perimeter baskets in a row for the Jaguars (1-0) senior.
In the final minute of the first, DeAngelo hit her fourth 3-pointer of the opening frame, followed by a steal and score, and another steal and score, to close the first quarter holding a 21-2 lead.
