Whether he was scoring big points, dishing off nifty passes to teammates or providing a game-changing and contagious energy, Devin Whitlock ensured that no one would forget his Belle Vernon Area basketball debut.
Whitlock led BVA in a huge second-half effort, providing a defensive boost teammates fed off of in addition to scoring 17 of his game-high 25 points in the final 16 minutes of the Leopards’ 75-60 victory over Class 2A Jeannette on the first day of the Hempfield Spartan Tip-Off Tournament Friday.
“We played like a team and played good defense,” Whitlock said of the team, which forced Jeannette into commiting 16 of its 25 turnovers in the second half.
“Defense turns into offense and that’s the best thing we did tonight.”
