After a tough year, a Monessen family recently received a much-needed Christmas blessing.
Monica Hazzard and her children moved to the area after leaving a domestic violence situation.
The Monessen Salvation Army helped them get into the Blackburn Center, where they were housed for two months before receiving a Section 8 housing voucher.
Monica, her three teenage daughters and her only son moved to Monessen last year. Her son, Tareef McClellan, was killed in McKeesport in July.
The 22-year-old was found in a McKeesport garage with a gunshot wound to his head. No charges have been filed in connection with his death.
“It’s hard, even thinking about it, it takes everything not to cry,” Monica said.
