Zach Quattrone has always been proud of his family’s Italian ethnicity.
And he is especially proud of that heritage these days.
Quattrone, a native of Monongahela and a current resident of White Oak, is getting ready to play football in Italy for the Ancona Dolphins in the Italian Football Association (IFA, Division I).
He is a 2015 graduate of Serra Catholic who also went to school and played football at Washington & Jefferson. As a defensive back, Quattrone played several positions in W&J’s secondary.
But while his skills on the field have served him well during his career, his last name also proved valuable with his latest journey.
“A coach for Ancona is friends with one of the coaches at W&J and he follows the team a lot,” Quattrone, 22, said. “He saw my name and reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in getting dual Italian-American citizenship so I could play on the team in Italy.
“I was like, ‘absolutely.’ I went over there and stayed for about a month while I applied for the dual citizenship,” he added. “I met the coaches and a lot of the players. I’m really excited to go back over.”
