Pleasant Hills residents will soon see a new Amish furniture maker as a tenant in a building on Route 51 that’s been vacant for years.
Pleasant Hills borough council unanimously approved the renovation of the building, located at 310 Clairton Blvd., by JDM Structures, a barn and shed builder that hails from Ohio Amish Country.
The company’s proposal was approved by officials after hearing a presentation by Brandon Wilkins of Tekton Engineering, the design engineer for JDM Structures.
Wilkins said the building will be renovated into a retail office for the sale of sheds and outdoor furniture, with the building’s surrounding gravel space used to display the structures.
Wilkins said the group wants to take occupancy of the building as soon as January.
Wilkins said the group will only use the bottom floor of the two-story structure, and renovation plans include putting new siding on the outside of the building, installing stormwater management as well as cleaning out the interior.
“Nobody is going to buy sheds from a building that doesn’t look presentable,” Wilkins said.
