Turnovers and second quarter struggles from the field left Elizabeth Forward with a disadvantage it couldn’t overcome Friday in a 64-41 loss to South Park on opening night of the annual Betsy Invitational.
The Warriors (3-4) committed 24 first-half turnovers and scored just two points in the second quarter to head into halftime trailing by 20 points.
“Even with a loss, I always like to give two positives for every one negative, and I was not very nice in the locker room tonight,” Elizabeth Forward head coach Krystal Gibbs said. “I’m very disappointed in the heart, the hustle and the effort, things you cannot coach in kids.”
The Warriors, who had 12 turnovers in each of the first two quarters, forced the Eagles (3-4) into committing 10 of their own in the first quarter.
However, when EF forced a miscue, another often followed on the other end of the court. South Park took advantage of most of its opportunities, taking a 16-12 lead after eight minutes.
