Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald was one of four elected officials to win the inaugural Moe Coleman “Let’s Work Together” award recently in Pittsburgh.
Winning the award along with Fitzgerald, a Democrat, are Butler County commissioners Kevin Boozel, also a Democrat, and Republicans Leslie Osche and Kim Geyer.
The award is named after Pittsburgh social worker, public servant and founder of the University of Pittsburgh’s Institute of Politics Morton “Moe” Coleman, who died in January at age 86.
The award was established to recognize and celebrate local and national elected officials from differing political points-of-view for their ability to cooperate with their counterparts in the political and government arena.
The creation of Joe Mistick, associate professor of law at Duquesne University and former Pittsburgh deputy mayor, and Jim Roddey, former chief executive of Allegheny County from 2000 to 2004, the award is intended to be a beacon of light in an increasingly acrimonious and uncivil environment of public discourse.
