Charleroi middle school students fulfill Christmas wishes for others

An annual program held for Charleroi Area Middle School students last week will have children in the Christmas spirit all year long.
The 12 Days of Christmas program, which was established in 2004 by former principal Mary Tickner, has continued since her retirement in 2015 with the help of teachers and Principal Adam Brewer.
The program begins weeks prior to a holiday gift ceremony when English language arts students write letters to Santa.
Rather than requesting gifts for themselves, the students ask for gifts for others.
A committee of teachers selects a number of letters based on content and fulfills the student writers’ Christmas wishes.
Students, their families and the recipients are invited to an assembly at the school. The winning letters are read and the students present the gifts.
In addition, students can enter another student’s name in a gift raffle.
With their teacher’s assistance, they wrote letters about people who inspired them or made a difference in their life.
