Children will have an opportunity to take the controls of five different model train displays — starting and stopping trains, emptying hopper cars and blowing the whistles — this weekend at the fifth annual Grand Central Train Show.
The show benefits the Central Volunteer Fire Company in Elizabeth Township.
“We started out at our fire hall in 2015 with 50 tables and about 20 vendors and one working (train) display by the Pittsburgh Independent Hi-Railers,” said Terry Halt, the chairman of the fire department’s train show committee. “We grew to 185 tables. We are now at Marx’s Court Time Sports Center, 95 Enterprise St. in Elizabeth Township.”
Halt said there are five working displays set up by the Pittsburgh Independent Hi-Railers, the Pittsburgh S-Gaugers, Esther’s Steeltown N-Gaugers of Millvalle, the Western Pennsylvania Railroad Museum and the Allegheny Northern Model Railroad Club.
