Elizabeth ‘Betty’ M. Canigiani Savarino – Belle Vernon
Elizabeth “Betty” M. Canigiani Savarino, 91, of Belle Vernon, Washington Township, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born July 7, 1928, in Fayette City, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Elizabeth Klinsky Canigiani. A resident of Belle Vernon for the past 60 years, Mrs. Savarino was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and was a homemaker. She was a member of the former Catholic Daughters of the Americas B.V. Court 1522, former St. Sebastian’s Ladies Guild and was active in other parish activities and ministries; church lector, Eucharistic minister and church choir. Betty also belonged to the Third Order of St. Francis, volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul thrift store, delivered Meals on Wheels, was a former Girl Scout leader and member of the Belle Vernon-Fayette City Golden Age Assembly. Betty enjoyed playing cards with her group of very special ladies for over 50 years; Sabra Clark, Lucille Dubrovich, Eleanor Heisler, Mary Ann Lenio, Doris Zeli, Bernie Adams, Marge Conte, Pat Gumbert and Mary Ann Lisovich. She is survived by her children, George and Janine Savarino of Belle Vernon, Jimmy Savarino of Pittsburgh, Nancy and Tim Weinman of Greensburg, Thomas Savarino of Charleroi, Carolyn and Paul Farrier of Charleroi and Kathleen and Brennan Ritzer of Ruffs Dale; six grandchildren, Nicole Weaver and husband Jesse, Ashley Weinman and fiancé Anthony Sciulli, Joshua Savarino, Zachary Ritzer, Alex Ritzer and Lee Ritzer; two great-grandchildren, David Weaver and Elizabeth Weaver; and a sister, Elinor Tuman of Tacoma, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Savarino, on Jan. 15, 2017. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Prayers of Transfer will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston as celebrant. Entombment will take place in Mon Valley Memorial Park. Members of St. Sebastian Parish will pray the Rosary for the departed soul of Betty at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Nancy, Tom, Carolyn and Kathleen are exceptionally thankful to Jimmy for unselfishly putting his life on hold to move in with Mom and take care of her and to George or always being there when Jimmy needed help.
