A vehicle was pulled from the Monongahela River Monday.
Police were called to the Noble J. Dick Aquatorium around 11 p.m. Sunday for a report of an unoccupied vehicle that went into the river.
Monongahela police Chief Kevin Harris said the car’s owner, Sara Yanko-Nagle, 32, of Monongahela parked near the Aquatorium while searching for her dog.
After she got out of the vehicle, the car apparently drifted into the water.
“At this point we’re just curious,” Harris said. “We’re curious to see what’s inside.”
When police arrived, the car was nose down in the water, stuck underneath the boat dock.
By the time a tow truck arrived, the vehicle was fully submerged.
East Bethlehem Township, Donora and Gallatin Sunnyside fire department dive teams were called to assist.
Divers tried to remove the car for nearly two hours Sunday before calling off the effort, which resumed Monday afternoon.
