Monongahela council had to hire a new city clerk last night as the first new clerk since 1973 resigned after only two months on the job.
During Wednesday’s business meeting, council announced Joann Kiggins resigned for personal reasons.
Kiggins was hired in November to replace Carole Foglia, who retired after 46 years.
Councilman Ken Kulak said council decided the best solution was to appoint Tamie Gido to the position. Gido has worked for the city for about 30 years.
“She knows the city like the back of her hand,” Kulak said.
Gido has worked in the city office for some time alongside the various departments that keep the city running.
Gido takes the $42,400 position, which includes a stipend for work as the health board secretary, and will have a probationary period of 90 days.
Mayor Greg Garry said he met with police Chief Kevin Harris and the full-time officers this week to start talking about some things they want to get accomplished in the first six months of the year.
Garry also said council is considering purchasing a camera system to film its own meetings to share with the public. Meetings are currently often livestreamed on social media by residents.
