A special election will be held in March in the 58th Legislative District to fill the unexpired term of former state Rep. Justin Walsh, who was sworn in Monday as a Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge.
Speaker of the House Mike Turzai of Allegheny County announced Tuesday that special elections will be held March 17 to fill vacant seats in Westmoreland, Bucks and portions of Butler and Mercer counties due to resignations.
According to Wanda Murren of the Pennsylvania Department of State, Turzai had 10 days from the date of the resignations to set the special election and there had to be at least 60 days between the announcement of the special election and when it is held.
“The parties will be nominating their candidates and the independents and minor party candidates will gather signatures just like in any other election,” Murren said.
The winner of the special election will serve as the representative in the 58th District through the end of the year.
