The Thomas Jefferson wrestling team made a loud statement they’re ready to defend their Section 2-3A championship with a convincing 52-17 win over West Mifflin Tuesday.
The Jaguars (6-2, 3-0) were down 11-0 on their home mat before reeling off 11 consecutive victories, some in impressive fashion.
“This was hard, this was really hard coming off Powerade and a little layoff,” said TJ head coach Mike Ladick. “I have a ton of respect for Coach Salopek and what he does over there. This is a rivalry and his guys are always ready to wrestle. We were prepared but some things got exposed.”
After a forfeit and a technical fall at 120 and 126 pounds put the Jaguars down 11-0, Ben Eckenrod gutted out a 9-4 decision over Nyzair Burt at 132 pounds. Eckenrod led 8-1 after one period.
At 138 pounds, TJ’s Kale Buckiso (10-5) scored all of his points in the second period in a 6-0 win over Tony Salopek to cut the Titans lead to 11-6.
