As she entered Thursday’s non-section home game against California, Frazier senior girls basketball player Sierra Twigg needed just five points to reach the 1,000-point milestone in her career.
Twigg quickly got the milestone out of the way, then set about the task of leading the Commodores to a satisfying 33-26 victory over the Trojans.
“It’s so great,” Twigg said, describing what it felt like to become only the third player in Frazier girls basketball history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. “It’s the best feeling in the world.”
Twigg noted that she had friends and family as well as former teammates and coaches in attendance. They didn’t have to wait long to witness Twigg complete her huge accomplishment.
Less than five minutes into the first quarter, Twigg found herself alone in the paint, turned and found the bottom of the net. It was her fifth point of the game and the basket gave the Commodores a 5-3 advantage. But the bucket will no doubt be remembered most for what it meant to Twigg.
Following the basket, the game was briefly stopped and Twigg had a moment of celebration at midcourt with her entire team.
Twigg noted that Brooke Poling, a former teammate who also reached the 1,000 point milestone, was a big part of her success.
“Brooke was a big part of it,” Twigg said. “She was my inspiration.”
