Is it good offense or good defense that wins basketball games?
Charleroi’s answer Friday was its offense, which beat McGuffey’s top defense.
The Cougars were able to dictate the tempo from the opening tip en route to a critical 57-51 victory over host McGuffey.
“Dictating the tempo was exactly what we wanted to do tonight,” Charleroi coach Bill Wiltz said. “We wanted to play to our strengths and look for good shots. We didn’t want to rush it and turn the ball over. To get the lead early was key for us. Every time they made a run we gave them an answer right back. I loved how we played together.”
The Cougars (10-4, 5-1) were averaging a section-best 65.2 points per game, while host McGuffey carried the stingiest defense in the section by allowing just 42 points per game.
