With one thunderous dunk, the Leopards’ Mitch Pohlot brought the house down inside Belle Vernon Area’s gymnasium.
From that point, the 5:40-mark of the fourth quarter, it was all Leopards.
Pohlot scored 10 straight points and BVA outscored rival Ringgold, 22-8, in the final frame to send the Rams home with their third straight loss, 77-66.
An off-balance Devin Whitlock took a pass from Pohlot and sent a soft toss toward the BVA rim, back into the hands of a rising Pohlot who slammed it down emphatically, sending most of the capacity crowd into a frenzy.
The dunk gave BVA a 63-60 lead and forced Ringgold coach Phil Pergola to take a timeout.
“I told them, ‘Don’t let that dunk bother you. Just play. It’s only worth two points,’” Pergola said.
Luke Wyvratt hit a pair of free throws to make it a one-point game with 5:19 to go, but Pohlot rattled off six straight points to make it 69-62.
