The Mon Valley NAACP is sponsoring a food drive in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The food drive, benefiting the Greater Washington County and Westmoreland County food banks, began Monday and will continue through Sunday.
Collection bins will be stationed at the public libraries in Belle Vernon, Charleroi, Donora, Monessen, Monongahela, Rostraver Township and West Newton during normal business hours.
The NAACP also encourages personal collection efforts at home, schools, work or churches. Anyone who would like to sponsor something should call the NAACP at 724-684-8545.
Donations of desirable nonperishable foods can include cereals, peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned meats, soups, canned juices, pasta, salad dressings, paper products, toiletries and detergents.
The Mon Valley NAACP will commemorate its Day of Service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day — the third Monday of January, which is Jan. 20 this year — and will pick up the donations that day.
