New stop signs were installed Tuesday at the intersection of Route 48 and Round Hill Road in Elizabeth Township in an effort to improve safety at what has been deemed a dangerous intersection.
The four-way stop signs replace the previous signs, which only required motorists on Round Hill Road to stop. The decision to install the four-way stop signs came after a traffic study of the intersection.
“We worked with the municipality to increase the safety in that area,” said Jasmeen Manyisha, the safety press officer for PennDOT District 11.
Manyisha said blinking lights will be placed on the signs for the first month or so to help draw attention to them. Traffic cones have also been placed in the approach to intersection.
“There are ‘Stop Ahead’ signs to increase awareness,” Manyisha said.
