A Rostraver Township home was heavily damaged during a fire Thursday, though the family members and their pets escaped unharmed.
The fire broke out around 10:45 a.m. Thursday at 1754 Rostraver Road. The homeowner, Patrick Major, was home with his son.
“A passing motorist came to the house and knocked on the door to tell him his home was on fire. He wasn’t aware of it,” said Rostraver Township police Chief Greg Resetar.
The house sits on a hillside above the intersection of Routes 201 and 51. Flames that were shooting from the roof could be seen from the roadway below, with dark columns of smoke visible from a distance.
The two men gathered their golden retrievers and got out of the house with little else. Major said he didn’t even have collars for his two dogs.
