If you ask Edward Ehko the secret to a long and happy life, he’ll be honest with you — there isn’t one; it’s all in your genes.
He said his bloodlines have served him well, allowing him to celebrate his 101st birthday Friday with friends and family by his side.
Seeing so many come together for his big day brought tears to his eyes as he sat in front of three large bright blue balloons representing the numbers 101.
Ed was born Jan. 17, 1919, in Charleroi at his home on Crest Avenue, the son of two immigrants who made their home in the Magic City.
A working man, he had to leave school to take care of his family.
He worked in the steel industry before joining the military in 1941 and worked on the flight deck of a naval boat during World War II.
