This month, three churches in the Mid-Mon Valley officially joined forces in a merger to form St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church.
The Rev. Kevin Dominik said the merger came as no surprise to parishioners of St. Damien of Molokai in Monongahela, Mary, Mother of the Church in Charleroi and Our Lady of the Valley in Donora because “over the past year, the parishioners along with the clergy team and the Mid-Mon Valley have been working and praying together” to plan the merger and explain what it means to St. Andrew the Apostle’s 7,000 parishioners.
Around 150 parishioners came together Sunday at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Monessen for a unity banquet to “gather as one team to help join the three church families and celebrate the merger,” St. Andrew’s business manager Joe Caruso said.
The merger took effect Jan. 6.
