The phrase “follow your heart” is good advice, and Port Vue resident Gregg Johnson hopes it proves profitable.
An avid music fan and performing musician, Johnson recently returned home after spending two months at the world-renowned Michigan-based Galloup School of Guitar Building and Repair. He completed the Journeyman program that will allow him to soon start his own business in guitar building and repair.
Johnson’s previous jobs include computer and medical software sales, real estate, excavation and hotel management.
“I wasn’t passionate about them,” Johnson, 31, recalled. “I couldn’t ignore the call of music.”
Born and raised in Low Hill and a 2007 graduate of Bethlehem Center High School, Johnson was bitten by the music bug at an early age.
“I started music when I was in fourth grade,” he said. “I played saxophone in the school choir and I played in the jazz band.”
At age 15, he heard legendary guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughn.
“That blues guitar really spoke to me,” he said. “I’ve never zeroed in on one style of music, but I’ve always had a passion for rock music.”
