Several local fire departments will benefit from annual state funding again this year.
Fire departments throughout the Mon Valley are using the funding to help offset truck debt, pay for new equipment, and upgrade their facilities.
Fire and ambulance companies in Fayette and Washington counties will benefit from $383,946 in total grant money from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
State Rep. Bud Cook, R-West Pike Run Township, announced the grant recipients Thursday.
All funds for the grants are accumulated through slot machine gaming –– not tax revenue.
Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training or reduction of existing debt.
