Danielle “Dee” List is well known around McKeesport for being an athlete, both at McKeesport Area High School and in the Special Olympics, but she is also known for having a “heart of gold,” according to school board President Joe Lopretto.
Dee, an MAHS cheerleader and volleyball player and a competitive swimmer in Special Olympics events and for the MAHS swim team, decided last month to combine her passion for athletics with her love of offering goodwill in her community. She created a new event dubbed “Dee’s Tiger Splash.”
Dee’s father, Jeff List, deputy chief for the McKeesport Fire Department, said MASD athletic teams, clubs, faculty members, special needs students, alumni and friends were all invited to the event “to help raise funds for the special needs programs at McKeesport Area and promote awareness and inclusion throughout the district.”
Everyone who participated donated $10 and then got to “take the Tiger Splash to promote inclusion and support our special needs students,” he said.
Dee told the board Wednesday that the purpose of the Tiger Splash was to raise money for “the programs I have benefited from so much.”
“I wanted to find a way to thank all my helpers, therapists and teachers for everything they do for me,” Dee said. “The Tiger Splash was a fun way to get everyone together to raise money for the special needs program.”
