Plans for a new UPMC medical complex in Jefferson Hills continue to move forward, as officials from the healthcare giant went before the borough’s planning board Monday night to address concerns and answer questions.
UPMC plans to build a 225,000-square-foot, three-story, 63-bed medical complex off Elliot Road and Route 51 that will include a hospital, clinic, office space, 700 parking spaces and a helipad that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It was first proposed in November 2018.
In September 2019, the Jefferson Hills Zoning Board denied UPMC and upheld an appeal filed by a portion of Jefferson Hills residents, who claim the hospital’s zoned for residential and office parks and is not suitable for the traffic and activity a new hospital will bring. The residents say the building permit was incorrectly given to UPMC.
Engineers and lawyers for UPMC, going under the name AUUE Inc., addressed issues such as traffic, pedestrian walkways, construction in residential zones, traffic lights and stormwater management at Monday’s meeting.
