Charleroi and surrounding communities have a new chief of police.
Chad Zelinsky was unanimously appointed to the position by the Charleroi Regional Police board on Monday in front of a room full of his family, friends and co-workers.
Zelinsky has worked as an officer for more than 20 years and most recently served as a detective with the regional police for the past five years.
After graduating from the police academy in 1998, he worked part-time for three years before accepting a full-time position in North Charleroi in 2002.
He remained with the North Charleroi police department until a merger in 2012 that formed the Charleroi Regional Police.
The regional police covers Charleroi, North Charleroi, Speers and is contracted for services in Twilight.
Zelinsky was sworn into his new position by Magisterial District Judge Eric Porter, who served as Charleroi Regional Police chief before trading in his badge for a gavel after winning his new post in November’s election.
