Assault case leads to lockdown of Charleroi schools

A Fallowfield Township woman was jailed Tuesday after allegedly hitting a man in the face with a wrench, fleeing the scene and subsequently causing a lockdown of the Charleroi Area School District campus.
According to a statement from the superintendent’s office, officials were notified by Charleroi Regional Police of a domestic incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon near the high school’s entrance.
Superintendent Dr. Ed Zelich said the district implemented lockdown procedures to ensure the health, safety and welfare of students and staff.
Charleroi Regional Police responded to the scene while awaiting assistance from state police.
The incident occurred in Fallowfield Township, which is not within the coverage area of the regional police force.
