Thomas E. Sampson, 76, of Charleroi, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020, at the home of his daughter, Ruth. He was born April 16, 1943 in Monongahela, the son of Elmer and Catherine Feevey Sampson. Tom was formerly employed at 88 Transit as a bus driver and also at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Smithton. For the past 27 years, he was employed at Corelle Brands, LLC in Charleroi where he was a neopak operator trainer. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. His memberships include the First Baptist Church of Monongahela and the American Legion Post 22 in Charleroi. He enjoyed spending his time watching dirt track races at his family’s business, Sampson’s Speedway, (which later became Mon Valley Speedway) in Van Voorhis. He was an excellent bowler, loved to race cars, watch the Steelers, and go to the Charleroi High School football games. He is survived by two daughters, Tammy L. Colbert and significant other, Gary Quast of Eighty Four and Ruth Sampson and husband Jody Grable of Charleroi; son, Master Sgt. Thomas E. Sampson of Alamogordo, N.M.; seven grandchildren, Autumn Olsavicky, Brandi and Cierra Colbert, Haley and Alyssa Sampson, Thomas and Russell Grable; three great-grandchildren, Katniss, Sapphira and Jasper; three brothers, Elmer and wife Hilda Sampson of Normalville, George and wife Carolyn Sampson of Charleroi, James Sampson of Monongahela; two sisters, Ada Harsh of Monongahela, Cathy and husband Dan Ryerson of Jefferson Hills; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruthetta Sadler Sampson, who died Nov. 11, 2009; and a great-grandson, Jacob. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, with the Rev. Mark Schollaert officiating.
