Nearly four dozen people attended an informational session presented by U.S. Steel on Tuesday to hear details of a $1.2 billion investment that is expected to make the Mon Valley Works more efficient and environmentally friendly.
The majority of people in attendance were members of the United Steelworkers, even though the event was intended to inform residents of communities like Clairton, Braddock, Liberty, Lincoln, Port Vue, Glassport and others that are located near one of the Mon Valley Works’ three plants about what they can expect from the projects.
Another meeting conveying the same information will be held at 6 p.m. today at U.S. Steel’s training facility at the RIDC City Center of Duquesne.
U.S. Steel will provide shuttle buses for residents who want to attend but do not have access to a car. Shuttles will pick up passengers at the Clairton municipal building at 5:15 p.m. and at the Braddock municipal building at 5:30 p.m.
The Mon Valley Works includes the Clairton Coke Works, the Edgar Thomson Steel Works in Braddock and the Irvin Plant in West Mifflin.
