Thursday was the deadline for objections to be filed regarding candidates for the special election in the 58th Legislative District, with no objections filed.
There are three declared candidates for the seat, which was vacated at the beginning of January by Justin Walsh, who resigned to become a Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge. The deadline for candidates to withdraw from the race is Monday.
Ken Bach this week became the last declared candidate in the race. The former Democrat is running as a Libertarian candidate.
“I’ve been a Libertarian for about a month. I gave the Democratic Party one last chance to stand up for the working man and when I saw that they weren’t going to, I left,” Bach said.
Bach, 52, of South Huntingdon Township outside of Smithtown, operates an auto repair shop. He is married and has a son and a daughter at the University of Pittsburgh. He has served on the Yough Area School Board for the past 12 years.
“What I see is neither party is willing to address the main issue that we face, which is property taxes,” he said. “What I’m running for is to end property tax as the funding source for school districts and bring expenses into line in the districts.”
