Greg Garry was sworn in Monday as the new mayor of Monongahela.
A former city treasurer, Garry defeated Councilwoman Claudia Williams in November. Williams remains on council.
Democrat incumbents Ken Kulak and Daryl Miller, who were re-elected in November, were also sworn in.
Garry appointed council members to their respective positions and committees. Kulak will lead accounts and finance, Miller will run streets and improvement, Rusty Polonoli will head parks and property and Williams will lead public safety.
Council unanimously accepted the nominations.
“I want to express my thanks and appreciation to all of the voters in Monongahela for electing me to office,” Garry said. “I ask God’s help in carrying out the duties of mayor in this city.”
Kulak said the city is heading full speed ahead.
“The budget has been passed and we will be moving forward into the new year,” he said.
Williams, who gave a brief public safety report, said the city is in good shape as 2020 begins.
“We are moving forward,” she said. “It is only the sixth day of the year, but I will say that in the past year we have done rental inspections and it has been a controversial program, but we have photographed evidence that proves we really need those inspections.”
She said the inspections will continue into the future.
“And I can make this announcement now,” she said. “It is the first quarter, which means it is time for those who live in the first ward to schedule their appointments for 2020.”
Miller said he is excited to get to work identifying streets in need of improvements that will be paid for by a grant recently awarded to the city by the Department of Community and Economic Development.
Council will meet again Wednesday.
