A Ringgold High School senior has been recognized for a poem he wrote about Martin Luther King Jr.

Roderick Wilson Jr. will be honored tonight by Carnegie Mellon University for submitting the best entry from his high school. His poem is titled “Remembrance.”

CMU has held the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Writing Awards annually since 1999.

Although King’s role as a spokesman and activist in the civil rights movement was more than 50 years ago, his message of equality, human rights and social activism is still relevant today.

Ringgold is the only district in the Mon Valley that participated in the contest this year.
