Although an official date has not been announced, State Sen. Jim Brewster announced Friday that one lane of Bunola River Road in Forward Township will reopen “once a new temporary signal and a permanent power source are secured.”
Due to a landslide, the road had signal-lane access and a temporary stop light since last year. However, after receiving reports from Forward Township police Chief Travis Stoffer that drivers were running the lights, PennDOT closed the road to non-emergency traffic Jan. 23.
Prompted by complaints from residents and area business owners that the closing of the road was inconveniencing them, Brewster, D-McKeesport, began working with PennDOT District 11 representatives and state Rep. Mike Puskaric, R- Finleyville, to figure out a way to have one lane reopened.
“My offices have been receiving calls, emails and letters from constituents voicing their concerns about the repairs and closure of Bunola River Road. I understand their frustration,” Brewster said. “I have traveled Bunola River Road for over 40 years and know firsthand the importance of this road to area businesses, residents and the community.
