A Brownsville girl recently used her birthday to generate needed items for homeless animals at an area shelter.
Lila Mitchell, who turned 9 on Jan. 27, asked party goers to bring donations for area cats and dogs who do not have homes, rather than presents for herself.
Lila’s mother, Brianne, said her daughter has always had a special place in her heart for furry friends.
She was inspired to help them after rescuing her tiny best friend, a black cat named Moon, last fall.
Lila’s mother found Moon in the middle of a busy highway and brought him home. Lila immediately fell in love with the kitten and asked to keep him.
