McKeesport Mayor Michael Cherepko presented five people “who exemplify the city’s motto of love, hope, respect and dignity” with awards during Wednesday’s council meeting.
Four times a year, Cherepko hands out Living the Message Awards to people who were nominated by city residents and chosen as awardees by the McKeesport Message Committee, a subgroup of the mayor’s Select Committee on Crime and Violence.
“McKeesporters of all ages — from youth volunteers to senior citizens — display characteristics of respect, dignity, hope and love on a daily basis in our community,” Cherepko said. “Whether through organizing community activities or offering a helping hand to those in need, everyday people are doing their part to make our city a better place.
“These are people who do the wonderful and amazing things that they do because they love their city, not because they want recognition.”
