When it’s senior night and you are the road team, you can throw out the records and expect a stiff fight.
The Charleroi girls’ basketball team used a balanced scoring attack in a 52-46 triumph at Beth-Center Thursday in Section 2-3A action.
“We’ve been playing more as a team these last couple of weeks and we’re getting stronger,” Charleroi coach Bill Wagner said. “The girls realized you have to win as a team, and it can’t just be on one player.”
The Cougars (14-7, 10-4) ended the regular season with its fourth straight win and have won eight of their last 10 games heading into the postseason.
Bella Skobel led all scorers with 19 points and had eight, critical points in the final 2:50 of the contest to help Charleroi preserve the victory.
Hannah Keranko finished with nine points for the Cougars, while Leena Henderson, Kaitlin Wagner and Cierra Gazi each had eight.
“Maybe early on in the season we were leaning on Bella. Trust me, she can handle it because she is an awesome player,” Wagner said. “But now the girls understand that they can help Bella out on offense, and they’re now finding their shots.”
