The settlement agreement between the Allegheny County Health Department and U.S. Steel was approved in court Monday.
The settlement agreement and order with U.S. Steel was issued in June 2019.
The agreement addresses ACHD’s 2018 enforcement order and all subsequent penalties issued against Clairton Coke Works from 2018-19.
“U.S. Steel thanks the court for approving this settlement that allows the parties to move forward,” said Amanda Malkowski, U.S. Steel communications analyst. “Environmental stewardship and safety remain core values at U.S. Steel, and we are committed to investing in our operations and processes to continue and to improve air quality at both Clairton and throughout the Mon Valley.”
